About the author

Haroon

Founder & Editor, UIFCalculator

I’m Haroon, the founder of UIFCalculator. I built this site because working out anything to do with UIF in South Africa was needlessly confusing, and I wanted one place that was accurate, current, and written in plain language.

What I do here

I research the UIF rules at source — the Unemployment Insurance Act, the Unemployment Insurance Contributions Act, the Department of Employment and Labour’s guidance, and SARS’s published figures — and turn them into guides and a calculator that ordinary workers and small employers can actually use. Every figure on this site is checked against the official 2026 rules before it is published, and each guide carries a “last reviewed” date so you know it is current.

Why you can trust the numbers

I’m not affiliated with any government body, which means I have no reason to do anything but get the facts right. Where other sites give a vague estimate, I show the actual formula — for example, the income replacement rate that slides from 60% for the lowest earners down to 38% at the ceiling. And where common myths circulate — like the claim that the R17,712 ceiling “increased in 2026” when it has actually applied since 1 June 2021 — I correct them with the source.

My promise to readers
